Thrifty Thursday: Re-purposing your daughter’s leggings

Yesterday evening we decided to go through Breanna’s clothes and take out the ones that no longer fit, could be garage-saled, or that we could use for rags. We found a couple of pairs of leggings with holes and worn out knees, so, I decided to go ahead and try an idea I had read on the Mom Advice blog not too long ago.

Amy talked about how she cut her daughter’s old leggings and turned them into comfortable shorts that could be worn under dresses. What a great idea!

And in less than 5 minutes….

We re-purposed those leggings to become comfy shorts that could be snuggly worn under Breanna’s dresses. :-)

More Target Freebies! And Cheap Maternity Clothes

We made a trip to a another Target store today while we were out. We were taking the kids to the library to pick up some books and videos and decided to stop at the Target store nearby since I was able to print more of the $10 Bathroom Furnishings Coupons last night before they became unavailable. :-(

I had also printed the $3.00 Liz Lange clothing coupons to see if I could find some good maternity clothes on clearance. I did! Here’s what I found:

$4.24 white Liz Lange t-shirt
-$3.00 Target Liz Lange coupon
=$1.24 (reg. price was $16.99)

$4.98 teal Liz Lange t-shirt
-$3.00 Target Liz Lange coupon
=$1.98 (reg. price was $9.99)

$3.24 teal Liz Lange t-shirt
-$3.00 Target Liz Lange coupon
=$0.24 (reg. price was $12.99)

Besides these deals, I got a couple more bathroom freebies!

We got another toothbrush holder and a new toilet seat. Both were $9.99, and both were free after the $10 coupons. I was happy to get another toothbrush holder because all of our toothbrushes and such don’t fit into just one holder so now we have two that are matching. And we were able to get rid of our old holders that were looking pretty bad.

Ruben already installed our new toilet seat which looks nice. Technically, since we are renters, we didn’t have to replace the seat ourselves, but why not? It was free. :-)

Latest Freebies in My Mailbox

I recently got a new Bzz Agent Bzz Kit in the mail for being a Bzz Agent and all. It came with an apron, two Lawry’s marinades (No MSG), Lawry’s Seasoned Salt (No MSG), and lots of coupons. It’ll be interesting to try out the marinades. I’m already familiar with their seasoned salt, and I currently have a large one in my kitchen cabinet. My favorite way to use it is in mashed potatoes in place of regular salt n’ pepper. It really is delicious, and I got the idea from The Pioneer Woman’s blog a few years ago. So good.

Anyway, if you’re not yet a Bzz Agent, but enjoy trying out products and sharing your opinion with others…..what are you waiting for? :-) Just visit the Bzz Agent website to sign up. It’s free.

Target & Old Navy Shopping Trips: FREE waste basket & toothbrush holder!

I’ve got a couple of fun shopping trips to share with you guys. I’m especially excited about my Target trip. Just take a look at what I got for ONLY $0.28!

That’s right. Only $0.28! The bathroom waste basket and the toothbrush holder were absolutely FREE using a $10 coupon on Target’s website at the moment. And I only ended up paying $0.14 each for the Up & Up Liners also using a couple of coupons off of Target’s website for feminine care products. Here’s a breakdown:

$9.99 Waste Basket
-$10.00 Target Bathroom Furnishings Coupon (NO beeps)
=FREE

$9.99 Toothbrush Holder
-$9.99 Target Bathroom Furnishings Coupon (this coupon beeped but right away the cashier and supervisor agreed that is was a bathroom furnishing & adjusted the coupon and put it through – yay!)
=FREE

$0.89 Up & Up Liners
-$0.75 Target Feminine Care Product coupon
=$0.14

Besides these deals, I also found Annie’s natural snack bunnies on sale for $1.99 for the kids. I picked up some boxes of those because I never find them below that price. Sorry I didn’t get a picture of those.

Overall, though, it was a great trip! I haven’t gotten deals as good as these in a long time.

Onto the next store. We also went to Old Navy today to use a Groupon that was available a few weeks ago. I and hundreds of thousands of other happy people picked up a Groupon for $20 at Old Navy that only cost $10. So we essentially paid $10 for $20 worth of merchandise at Old Navy. I thought this was a good deal.

For me, though, it didn’t end up being as good of a deal as I thought because I thought Old Navy’s prices were a little high compared to what I normally pay shopping Kohl’s clearance racks for the kids. And even Old Navy’s clearance was a disappointment. I suppose I’m just used to the nice clearance prices that  Kohl’s offers. I actually feel like I’m getting a great deal there. Anyway, here’s what I picked up.

$0.47 Tootsie Roll lunch box

$7.99 Boy’s Hat

$5.00 Girl’s yellow Shirt

$6.00 Boy’s orange Shirt

$1.00 Sweet Tarts  (filler)

After my Groupon, I paid $1.22 out of pocket. Not bad, but technically I paid $11.22 for everything because of the $10 that I initially paid for the Groupon. I guess this experience turned out okay, but I think I’m going to stick to Kohl’s in the future. If fact, I have a $10 Kohl’s gift card headed my way from MyPoints! I can’t wait to use it in conjunction with one of the coupons that Kohl’s frequently puts out.

Walgreens Trips

Now that I’m finally feeling MUCH better with this pregnancy, I’m ready to jump back into blogging. Sorry for my absence without any updates the past week and a half. I just wasn’t up to blogging much. I have finally reached the 12 week mark and have started to feel normal again for almost the whole day. :-) I’m thrilled about this. I do have some moments of feeling like I need to lie down and rest for 5 or 10 minutes, and I’m not completely over the nausea, but I’d say I’m about 90% better than I was just two weeks ago.

I even took a walk with the kids this morning without Ruben since he was at school. I haven’t done that in a VERY long time. It felt good to be outside enjoying the fresh air with the kids. However, we didn’t enjoy the mice, snake, or bugs along the way. Those things made our walk just a little more interesting.

Anyway, we walked to Walgreens. I just love having a Walgreens within walking distance. I only did two little transactions, but here’s what I got.

$2.00 Blistex RPM for Men
-$2.00 Register Reward
=FREE after RR (I only paid $0.15 tax for this because I used a $2.00 RR that I had from previous.)

$2.99 Colgate 360 Toothbrush
-$2.00 Register Reward
-$0.75 mfgr. cpn. from 6/5 SS
=$0.25 after RR (I used the RR that I got from the Blistex to pay for the toothbrush so I only paid $0.25 plus tax.)

We also made took a walk to Walgreens yesterday afternoon, and here’s what I got on that trip.

I ended up paying ONLY $1.71 out of pocket for everything! I used coupons and previous Register Rewards that I had to keep my out of pocket low plus I got a $2.00 Register Reward back for buying the Colgate 360 Toothbrush. Here’s what my deals looked like:

$0.50 each for Walgreens brand Tuf paper towels w/in-ad coupon.

$2.99 Colgate 360 Toothbrush
-$2.00 Register Reward
-$1.00 mfgr. cpn. from All You Magazine
=FREE after RR

$4.99 Walgreens brand diapers (We’ve used the Wags brand quite a bit, and it’s a great diaper, overall.)
-$2.00 Walgreens Coupon from baby booklet they had in some stores awhile back
=$2.99 (Great price for diapers!)

I’m really pleased with the deals I grabbed this week especially because we needed diapers and napkins, and I was able to get a pink toothbrush for my daughter – at her request. :-)

I’m hoping to start sharing more of my shopping trips with you guys, and I’d love to hear about the deals you’ve grabbed, too.

Happy Monday!
