Super Savings Saturday: JC Penney

This Super Savings Saturday isn’t about my latest trip to Walgreens (which incidentally has come down to about once every two weeks–just before my Register Rewards expire…..that reminds me…..I may need to make a trip there today.), it’s about my need to use a $10/$10 JC Penney coupon before it expired. And it happily resulted in a new purse for me.

A purse that was originally $60. I found it on the clearance rack for $11.97. Now we’re talkin’. After my $10 JC Penney coupon, I only paid $2.11 out of pocket! That’s about 96% savings!

I’m so glad to have found this great deal because my last purse was in terrible shape. It was so bad I was too ashamed to even show it to you in a picture.

Just kidding. In the haste of my transferring all of my things from one purse to the other, I threw the old purse in the trash before my daughter had the chance to start begging me to let her keep it.

P.S. I just edited this post because I realized that I didn’t go to Kohl’s at all for the purse, it was JC Penney. πŸ™‚


We’ve got feedburner.

Check out my right sidebar!Β  I finally got feedburner going so now you can simply enter your email address to sign up for free updates to The Sensible Mom.Β  I had feedburner on my other blog, A Lot of Savings, but Ruben had set it up at the time so I was a little clueless as to how to get it going and visible for this blog.Β  Ruben didn’t exactly remember how it go it going almost two years ago for the old blog, so, there was a bit of learning that had to be done on my part.Β  Good learning, though.Β  This is something I’ll need to know in order to be able to get it set up for others when we start our business.

And did you notice that I changed the color of the wording inside the subscription box?Β  I love knowing HTML and CSS!Β  But I’m a little afraid because I just started learning HTML/XHTML over the last few months and it seems soon enough designers are going to start using the newest version of HTML which is called HTML5.Β  There’s also a new version of CSS in the works called CSS3.Β  I guess I’ll have to check out a few books to learn all the cool new tags and functions available to us and to find out what is being pitched (depracated) in place of the newer code.

Since revamping our schedule, I’m happy to report that I’ve had success in going to bed earlier and waking up somewhere between 4:30-5:00am. This has allowed me time to shower, get myself ready, read my Bible, and exercise!

Getting into an exercise routine has been a challenge for me for a long time. I’ve tried scheduling it for the evenings, but when the time comes….there’s always something else that needs to be done or I just plain forget. By scheduling in it in the morning before all the kids are up, there is no forgetting and no excuses. It’s just me, and the “The Biggest Loser: Power Sculpt” DVD. Ruben does join me some mornings, and we are going to try to do it together every morning once we get another set of weights. Your workout just goes a little farther when you are using two weights instead of one each.

I’ll probably check out prices at Wal-Mart later this week.

Now to get my diet in check. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had started eating a bigger, yet healthier breakfast (still a lot of calories for breakfast, though) in an effort to lose weight. It’s not working.

Instead, I’m going to go back to eating less calories, more protein, more vegetables, and one cup of coffee per day. I’m only allowing myself one cup of coffee until I finish up all of my instant coffee (don’t want it to go to waste…..). I’ve got a small jar left and some in packets. After that, it’s “see ya” to coffee except for maybe a once a week homemade frappe on the weekend.

I’ll let you know how this works for me!

Do you make lists? I’m a list girl, myself. They help me to plan ahead and stay organized so I thought I’d join Domestically Obsessed in making a list for a few things I’m hoping to get done this week.

:: Monday-cook chicken breasts to use in salads for the rest of the week

:: Tuesday-get RSS feed going for this blog! It’s taking me a while….

:: Wednesday-Fill out BookIt! Program forms for Nathan and Breanna. They’ve been reading the Bible for 30 minutes each day. I’m so impressed! They’re reading Genesis, and I think they are close to Genesis chapter 30. They have needed help with the hard to pronounce names, and even though they had to read the words “sexual relations” several times, they’ve never once asked me what that means, and they have no idea (they’re 10 & 8 years old). I say, “Sssshhhhhhh.” Let’s keep it that way. πŸ™‚ I want their minds and hearts to be young for some time to come.

:: Thursday-Work on big hand-coded web project.

:: Friday-Get David’s pictures taken….that is if he doesn’t do anything wild and crazy that would result in a visible battle wound to the face and cause us to have to reschedule.

This lists looks doable to me. πŸ˜‰ What about you? Are you a list maker?
