I mentioned in my list of goals for this year that I want to lose 50lbs. I know it isn’t going to be easy, and I’ll need a plan to make it happen. At first, I thought I’d simply count my calories since that is the only thing that has truly worked for me in the past, but I’m thinking of taking a different approach after watching a few films on food, companies that produce the food, the way our food is made and grown, and the health and soundness of it all. I’m going to push myself to try a few new things I haven’t done in the past in an effort to be more healthy and get the weight off. An added benefit is that my entire family will be healthier as a result, too. Here’s what I’m aiming to do:
:: Start everyday with a bottle of water to help get the toxins out of my body
:: Eat more fruits and vegetables and buy organically as much as possible
:: Eat less red meat, and I’m hoping that sometime this year when we have more funds available, we can purchase one-half of a grass-fed cow (not sure yet when this will be) so that the red meat we do eat is healthier.
:: Try at least one recipe per week out of a Raw Foods cookbook (The raw foods lifestyle intrigues me, but our family is not yet ready to make the full leap. Baby steps.)
:: Eat fish at least 2 times a week
:: Eat more raw nuts and seeds
:: Exercise 4 times per week (I’m doing one of The Biggest Loser workout videos, and I signed up for a few exercise classes at school. This will put me in the fitness center for about 3 hours per week from the end of January til the beginning of May.)
:: Blog my weight loss journey for added accountability (nothing like putting your weight out there for the world to see! that’ll make me think twice about that late night snack!) and hopefully give inspiration to others that it can be done!
I’ve been carrying around this extra weight since my first pregnancy, and I’m so tired of it! By God’s grace and with His help and guidance, I’m hoping this will be the year that the weight finally comes off for good!
