I know this update is a bit late, but here goes. I lost .5 lbs. last week putting me at 217lbs. I would have preferred at least a one pound weight loss, but considering my birthday was last week and that involved birthday cake, ice cream, and other unhealthy foods, I suppose a 1/2 lb. weight loss for the week isn’t surprising.
Unhealthy food will do that to you. It will hinder weight loss. But since it was for my birthday, I’m not too bummed.
At least I lost weight (albeit small) and didn’t gain. That’s something to celebrate. π
I’m hoping for better results next week, though.
Here’s where I stand at the moment:
Current Weight:Β 217 lbs.
Goal Weight:Β 170 lbs.
# of total pounds I want to lose in 2012:Β 50lbs.
# of pounds to go until I reach my goal:Β 47 lbs.

Congratulations on the weight loss! And who can resist birthday cake? Certainly NOT me!
I am actually on a mission to try and lose 5 more pounds. I know that doesn’t seem like much, but once I hit the 39 pound mark, it’s been a killer to get any more off. I just think I’d be more comfortable if I lost 5 more. So, I am counting calories, and then next week I am going to start exercising 3 days/week with my neighbor/ friend. This will give me some much needed accountability in the area of exercise! I’ll let you know if I make any progress! I did lose 4 pounds in the past 2 weeks ( from being sick), but those were the 4 pounds I gained over the holidays….
I’ve missed seeing you…..everyone healthy over your way?

Often people get discouraged and give up because the amount they are losing isn’t enough in their mind. I think it’s great that you are keeping a 1/2 pound in good spirits and not letting it discourage you with obtaining your goal weight. Let’s face it, we didn’t just gain it overnight and we shouldn’t expect to lose it overnight. (Though I still want to lose it overnight) 1-2 lbs per week is the norm… seems so insufficient huh? We are hitting 4 weeks and I’ve lost 13 lbs, that seems to fluctuate. I still look in the mirror and see no changes, but I feel better. I put a shirt on and instantly noticed it fit better, I may not being seeing it, but that was proof to me that my body was changing. Have you checked out Myfitnesspal?

I have been trying to lose baby weight too, and I’ve found that the most discouraging part is the slow pace — losing 0.5 lbs a week is great in the long run, but in the short run it looks like nothing because our weight can go up and down 3-5 lbs based on time of day, how much water you’ve drank, when you last went to the bathroom, etc. So the first few weeks were very tough, since I was changing my habits but losing weight so slowly it appeared I wasn’t losing anything. I did lose 10 lbs over 3 months, though, so now that I know the scale has moved I’m feeling slightly more motivated… Good luck!

Thanks, Laura! I know I shouldn’t be discouraged for only losing .5 lbs. In the long run, it’s a good thing, I know. It’s just hard not to see the number on the scale go as low as I’d like it to be each week.

It’s really cool. You can log your food and exercises, even scan your barcodes for calorie/nutritional value. You can also log your weight and measurements. No one see that but you. However you can have friends join you and keep you motivated and show your stats like Facebook comments when you update. (ie, Gina lost 2lbs since here last weigh in).
