I had my husband take some updated pictures of me this past weekend. I had put on some makeup (mineral makeup plus some eye concealer – still don’t love the mineral makeup, but it’s growing on me a little).
I also decided to break out my hair straightener. I used to straighten my hair regularly, but it seems like since I gave birth to Elisabeth (baby #5), time escapes me.
That or I go to bed too late and don’t wake up before the kids start asking for breakfast. Hmm…
Then who has time to straighten their hair? π
Anyway, on Monday, I weighed 192 lbs. which means I’ve lost 1 lb. since last week’s update.
Weighing 192 lbs. is another milestone for me in this weight loss journey, because it’s the lowest weight I remember ever getting to after giving birth to Nathan (baby #1) 12 years ago, and before my weight started to go back UP instead of down.
I’m happy to be at this weight right now. I’m feeling better and noticing a difference in my body. It’s weird to look in the mirror and see a smaller ‘me.’
As I mentioned in my goals post, I’m still not getting on the treadmill, but I am moving more. I’m spending less time sitting in front of the computer (now that the book is done and my workload has been lighter), and more time moving with the kids and in the kitchen. I’m cooking more and cleaning more, which makes my husband happy. π Ruben has been doing a wonderful job of helping with meals and cleaning while I’ve been busy with the book and other work.
Here’s a look at what my progress looks like:
Beginning weight:Β 220 lbs.
Current Weight:Β 192 lbs.
Goal Weight:Β 170 lbs.
# of total pounds I want to lose in 2012:Β 50lbs.
# of pounds to go until I reach my goal:Β 22 lbs.
Total # of pounds lost to date:Β 28 lbs.
Every now and then I share how much weight I’ve actually lost since I gave birth to Elisabeth, who is now 9 months old! When I got out of the hospital, I came how weighing 248.5 lbs., so I’ve lost a total of 56.5 lbs. in nine months.
Hereβs what my post-partum results look like:
Weight on the day I came home from the hospital:Β 248.5 lbs.
Weight 9 months post-partum: 192Β lbs.
Total weight loss post-partum: 56.5Β lbs.
Howβs your weight loss progress coming along?Β

You are looking very good Sandra. I am so happy you have reached a new milestone in your weight loss. With each of my children I walked out of the hospital weighing less than the day I found out I was pregnant (I know this is not usually how it happens) and then would steadily lose weight until I hit my normal weight for my height which put me at a size 6.
Then at about 3 years after having the baby the weight would come back on. So frustrating! I have been exercising more and not eating seconds at any meal. I have not weighed myself for a while as if my weight is going up I get frustrated and off track. But I am comfortable in my size 14 and can fit a few of my size 12 so I am making some progress.
I have been really encouraged by reading your weight loss posts. I look forward to them. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, Shelly!
Your comment really made me smile when I read it last night, and I wanted to say thank you for sharing some of your weight struggles with me. I know that I am not alone, and I’m trying to be transparent in this journey in the hopes of encouraging other women.
It’s hard to lose weight, but it’s easier when we do it together and help each other along the way. π

Great Job!! I’m having a hard time staying motivated, but I have to think about how if I lose just 1 pound a week i’ll hit my goal weight in 5 more months.
Sandra says
Thanks, Gina! And, yes, it’s best to focus on losing one pound or even just half a pound at a time. π All those little victories lead to your goal weight.

Sandra, you look fabulous! Probably since the last time I checked on you, I’ve lost about 5 pounds. I’ve found that around the 25-pound mark, it’s not as easy to get the weight off. π I don’t think it’s a plateau, but it’s just not as easy.
All told, I’m down 28 pounds. I’d like to lose another 20, but like Gina mentioned, I want to concentrate on short-term goals to avoid setting myself up for failure. Right now, I’m at 162 and my only goal is to see 159 on the scale.
Admittedly, I’ve fallen off the wagon these past few weeks since having to go out of town (my Grandmother recently passed), so we’ll see where I go from here. It’s been so hard to get motivated again. I’m such a creature of habit, so when my routine gets disrupted, my weight loss efforts go out the window.
Sandra says
Thank you for the encouragement, KC!
But I’m so sorry to hear about your Grandmother.
I agree that it can be hard to get back on the wagon once you’ve fallen off, and it’s especially hard to eat well and stay motivated when you are not at home. In these cases, I think it’s perfectly okay to adapt to the situation.

Thank you, Sandra. xo

WOW! You are looking wonderful! I love the shirt on you, too!
Sandra, you are an excellent example of transparency with setting goals each week in several areas and then letting everyone know how you are doing! You are an inspiration!

Thank you, Gini! π
