For all my readers with blogs, HostGator is having a HUGE sale on their web hosting right now. It’s 75% off (unheard of for HostGator), but only for the next 2.5 hrs. or so. After that, it goes to 50% off — probably until midnight tonight.
This is a great deal if you are thinking about moving moving from Blogger (Blogspot) or WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, where you need to have your own web hosting.
This might also be a great deal if you are wanting to switch from your current web host to HostGator. I’ve personally been using HostGator for years for all of my websites, and I recommend HostGator to my clients who either need web hosting or want to switch from their current web host.
This might also be a great deal if you’re thinking about starting a blog. How many times have I read other bloggers say that they wish they would’ve started with a self-hosted WordPress blog? A lot.
If you have any questions about web hosting or HostGator, feel free to ask me in the comments. I’d be happy to help.
You can go here to visit HostGator and check out the sale.
This post contains my HostGator referral link.

How smooth f a transition would it be for moving my site from godaddy to host gator?
Sandra says
Hi Tanya! If you initiate the transfer with HostGator, itβs pretty straightforward. If you email me, I can give you the steps to take and possibly help out. My email address is: purelysensibledesign@gmail.com
Tanya says
Thanks Sandra, I will just initiate the transfer through Host Gator. I would rather the experts handle it π if I have questions once I get the confirmation email, I will be sure to let you know. Thanks for sharing the deal!
Sandra says
Hi Tanya! You are welcome! HostGator is great, and they usually get the transfer completed within 24-48 hours. And, yes, I’d be happy to help if you have further questions. π

Sandra,
I see there is also a sale on domains too. I was wondering since I have a Baby plan, could I just pick up a domain name and then use the baby plan to host the new domain? I am thinking it would be handy for when I want to switch over to the catalyst theme so I could set it up at the other domain and then transfer the setting to my site?
Sandra says
Hi Shelly! Yes, you can just pick up a new domain with HostGator, and you are good to go with web hosting, because you have the baby plan. You can use that new domain with your current plan.
And, yes, you can set up a test area with the new domain name, then install WordPress, then install Catalyst theme (I can install Catalyst for you, too. :)). Then you’d design your website with Catalyst and when you are finished, you’d export that theme and import it into Frugal Family Home. You’ll need to make sure that Catalyst has been activated on Frugal Family Home before you import the theme from your test site.
Once you import the theme from your test site (into your current blog), you’ll probably have to make some minor changes to get the theme that you import to look just like the theme that you created in catalyst on your test site.
When I export a theme from a test site and import it into a live blog (if I don’t use BackUp Buddy and I don’t think I would in this case), then there’s always a little work to be done to get it to look just like the test site, but the import of it is very close. Let me know if you have any questions. π

Hey Sandra, do you think this is a better deal than what I currently have with WordPress? I pay $30 a year to have my own domain with WordPress.com, and they’ve started putting ads on my blog, which I don’t like. If I switched to host gator, would I still have my custom design that you did for me? I’m not sure how it all works…
Sandra says
Hi Patty! Yes, I definitely think that using a self-hosted WordPress.org blog is better than using a hosted WordPress.com blog — if you want to have total control over your blog and not have to deal with the ads.
On a self-hosted blog, you can have your OWN ads (if you want to) and keep the money for yourself. π
This sale ends at midnight, though, so definitely make your purchase tonight if you want to switch to a self-hosted WordPress blog. HostGator rarely runs these types of sales, and I’m *guessing* but I think the next time you’ll see this type of sale from HostGator is in November of 2013 for their next black Friday sale.
Unfortunately, your current design will not transfer over to a self-hosted blog. π
Sandra says
I forgot to mention that even though your design will not transfer, your content (pages, posts, and comments) can definitely be transferred over. π
