This is a sponsored post as part of the Shaklee Corporation blogger program. I have received free products, online support, and incentives for participating in the Shaklee Corporation blogger program. My opinions are my own. People following the weight-loss portion of the Shaklee 180β’ Program can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week.
I mentioned inΒ my goals postΒ that I went to the Savvy Blogging Summit last week, so my brain is overloaded with tips and ideas for my business that I want to implement in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
It was a great conference — well organized, chock full of great speakers and sessions, fabulous for networking, just a terrific first-class blog conference all the way around. If you’re serious about turning your blog into a business, go toΒ Savvy. You won’t be disappointed.
My Not-So-Healthy Food Choices
But…if you’re trying to lose weight, it may be hard to do that while attending the Savvy Blogging Summit. π
For me, it was impossible. All the meals are included with your conference registration, and I knew that ahead of time. Not only that, but there’s coffee available pretty much all the time — iced or hot, it’s at-the-ready.
And snacks, we can’t forget about those. Aldi sponsored snack breaks, and while they provided fruit, I went for the chocolates and snack-y type foods. I couldn’t resist.
Oh, and I suppose that I should mention the ice cream on the way home. Graeter’s generously provided us with coupons for free pints of ice cream, and because some of my blogging friends don’t have a Graeter’s where they live and were going to flying out the next day…they gave me their coupons and my family of seven ended up with FOUR free pints of ice cream that we enjoyed on our car ride home.
That was probably my biggest downfall.
Weight Gain
Overall, I don’t felt like I overate a whole lot, but I did eat a lot of foods that weren’t necessarily healthy. I made the choice not to bring any of my Shaklee 180 products with me, because I knew that all meals, snacks, and coffee were going to be provided for me. I love that the Savvy conference provides all of that, but next time I’m going to request the vegetarian option ahead of time. π
All that to say, I gained 3.5 pounds this month. That’s right. I started the month at 182 lbs., and I stepped on the scale today and weighed 185.5 lbs.
Another Challenging Month Ahead
For most of the month, I was on track to lose weight.Β However, I shattered all of my progress with our out of town trip to Ohio to attend the conference.Β And I have another busy month ahead of me. I’ll be attending BlogHer in July in addition to several blog-related events, and there’s going to be food.
My Plan to Lose Weight in July
In order to be able to enjoy the conference and the foods there, I’m going to be posting what I’m eating here on my blog as added accountability. I plan on, of course, being on the Shaklee 180 program (you’ll get a chance to see what that looks like for me), juicing more than usual, and drinking fruit and veggie smoothies whenever my husband makes those for us. π
After two months of not losing any weight, I need to work hard at turning things around, if I want to come close to my goal of losing 40 lbs. this Β year.
Iβd love to know how you are doing on your weight loss journey. Are you seeing results? How do you handle the challenge of eating well when you are away from home?
Shelly says
It’s so hard eating away from home. At home you can keep the temptations at bay but when others are preparing food for you like at the conference it is hard to avoid those temptations. I have a hard time resisting ice cream too.
I had a good month, I lost half a pound this month. I also increased the intensity of my exercising. I am still struggling with sugar type foods but I keep trying to make progress.
Sandra, I am sure with your efforts focused again, you will lose the weight you gained really soon. π

Thanks, Shelly! And way to go on your weight loss! I read your recent update on how you’ve lost 3 pounds so far. That’s fantastic! Celebrate the small victories, for sure, because they add up to a greater loss in the end.

I don’t really need to lose weight, just eat healthier. I am really into those green smoothies. I got a blender for my birthday and am on the verge of getting started. Just have to buy the ingredients. Spinach is going to become my best friend lol. Good luck to you Sandra
Sandra says
Thanks, Karla! I love green juices and the smoothies are great, too. We bought a blendtec this year, and it have been wonderful for making smoothies with. π

Hi! I was watching Sidetracked Sarah’s Vlog and clicked on yours as well. It is so hard to travel and still eat somewhat healthy. I so hear ya! I have 5 kids as well-the last 2 were twins and when my weight kinda stabilized I was stuck at 182 as well. Unfortunately it has taken me a few years to get down to 145 and I wish I had done it quicker but as I lost weight it made it easier to be more active without hurting joints and all.
Anyways, when I travel (or when I’m home for that matter) I drink only water. I can drink so many extra calories that I don’t even realize it. I’ve been doing that plan of taking your weight and dividing by 2 and that’s how many oz I drink a day. It is so hard for me to get that many oz in so drinking anything else is out of the question. I also try not to guilt myself into eating things that I don’t like. Like eating veggies I don’t care for or that aren’t cooked the way I like them just so I can get to the dessert. Just eat the dessert. But then if there’s a part of the dessert that isn’t my favorite like a store bought pie crust, skip that as well. Basically anything or any bite that doesn’t taste wonderful isn’t worth the calories. I’m not really good at this one but I try really hard to eat teeny tiny bites of snacky foods between meals. I’d love to not snack between meals but it’s really hard to do that when you have treats you don’t normally get. So I try to take small bites and then drink big gulps of water between bites. Portion control has been key for me in losing my weight. My eyes are waaaay bigger than my stomach. lol
Hope that helps! Praying that you are able to break through to the 170’s and God blesses you richly in your life.

Hi Chris, thank you so much for all the wonderful tips! I appreciate it. I really like they way you drink water when you are away from home. I struggle with this because when I’m at a conference or a restaurant, I often go for coffee and even pop. I generally don’t drink pop at restaurants much, but I will at a conference. Anyway, you’re right that that is where so many extra calories can come from, which result in pounds gained…
I also love your tip about not eating anything you don’t truly enjoy. That would save me from extra calories, for sure. π

Losing weight when you’re traveling (or even maintaining weight) is SO hard! Hang in there. The biggest thing is just not giving up π
Sandra says
Thanks for the encouragement, Melissa! I’m definitely not giving up! π

We all have those months and I’ve been to blogging conferences – the food is HARD to resist! Don’t beat yourself up. My advice is that this is a new month. Next time you’re going to a conference have a strategy. Take Shaklee 180 with you. Decide which meal will be “the meal” and attend the workout sessions or find another Shaklee 180 blogger or workout partner. Take the stairs not the elevator, that is my saving grace for working out at a conference and it works!
Sandra says
Thanks for the tips, Sommer! It is ridiculously hard to stay on track at a blogging conference. I have another conference coming up this month, and I am trying to eat well beforehand so that I can have some treats while I am there. π
