In this video, we visit Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago for an appointment with David’s bone marrow transplant doctor. I also show you what a miracle his transplant has been, and you get to know David a little better.
I hope you enjoy this vlog! π

How old is David? My 7-year-old boy, Edward, and I watched this tonight. Edward instantly took a liking to David! π Praise God everything checked out okay! I’m glad you don’t have to go back until winter. π
Thank you for sharing this vlog and showing us a glimpse of your experience. Those of us who haven’t experienced it first hand can only imagine.

Hi Gina! π I’m sorry I didn’t answer this comment sooner. I just saw it and somehow missed it until now. π
David is 6.5 yrs. old, so he’s close in age to your son, Edward. π
He’ll be 2 yrs. post transplant in December and we’re planning a celebration that perhaps I can vlog and share, too. David is definitely excited about his upcoming “transplant birthday” and loves getting to celebrate two birthdays a year. To us, David’s transplant birthday is a reminder of God’s grace and the willingness of a very special person to give David a second chance at life.
I hope you and your family are doing well, friend!

Thank you for the kind words, Kim. I decided to make the videos sharing David’s story as a way to help my family and others going through similar situations.
I’m so sorry to hear that your precious 4yr. old daughter was recently diagnosed with this horrible disease. My son, David, was also 4yrs. old when he was diagnosed, so I understand how you’re feeling. It is terrifying to think about the future right now, and life will be a roller coaster for you all for sometime. I can honestly say that there is no easy way to get through this, but we relied heavily on the Lord Jesus Christ, our family, our church family, and even the kindness and prayers of strangers.
As for how to deal with this emotionally…it’s hard. I cried many tears. There were days where I felt like I could live and “do this.” And there were days when I cried out and told the Lord that I could NOT do this. I can’t share all of the things we experienced privately with my son, David, but they were terrifying and painful for all of us.
God absolutely gave us more than we could handle when my son became ill, but He also carried us through it.
As for how I made time for my husband and four other children, well, we honestly just did what we had to do. David was sort of “set apart” from our four other kids during his illness, and that was reality. He wasn’t like our other kids at that time (though he definitely is now that he’s well) because he was extremely ill and relied heavily on blood transfusions. He was also constantly either in the emergency room or hospitalized. My husband and I just worked together as much as we could and did whatever we needed to do for David. Usually, that meant that I stayed with David during his hospitalizations and he cared for our other four kids and visited us frequently.
