Life has been a roller coaster lately, and Iโm ready for things to get back to normal.
But I guess theyโre not going to just yet because I woke up to a child vomiting again this morning. ๐
The craziness started last Monday night with a carbon monoxide leak that sent our whole family to the emergency room. Praise the Lord that our carbon monoxide detectors went off, and we realized why we were feeling sick and got out of the house and to safety before it was too late.
The fire department and gas company came out and confirmed a leak that they thought was coming from the basement. We were told that the house wasnโt safe to live in, so we spent one night in a hotel and the rest of the time we stayed with my mom.
Our landlord finally got someone out to inspect and make repairs and we were able to return home on Friday morning.
But guess what? On Friday morning, Elisabeth woke up sick and was throwing up about every 20 to 25 minutes. Then by Friday night, we were ALL sick. Ruben and I were cleaning up vomit left and right, and trying to keep it together because we werenโt feeling well either.
Saturday was a day of complete and utter exhaustionโฆand more throwing up. On Sunday, things started to look a little better, but we were still sick and exhausted and there was more throwing up. Laundry has been endless.
Monday was a bit better than Sunday, and we were mostly dealing with upset stomachs and fatigue.
But this morning (Tuesday), Elisabeth woke up throwing up again, and I just want all of this to end now. But since itโs not over, weโre going to keep taking it easy and pray weโre all well soon.
And so, because life hasnโt been normal lately, I havenโt been keeping up with my weekly goals, but Iโm going to attempt to this week and see how it goes. ๐

Oh my! Have you had a blood test to see if you all have CO poisoning? Have the windows/doors been opened to air out the home? Does everyone feel better if they are out of the home? I am concerned. It is cumulative and with Elizabeth still throwing up, it makes me nervous. LMK.

Hi, Lisa! Thanks for your care and concern. Life has been rough with the CO poisoning and the stomach bug (which is still lingering). We did air out the house before we came back home. To be completely honest, we still feel like there’s something wrong with the air quality in our home, but at least we know that it is no longer carbon monoxide because after the repairman that our landlord sent left last Thursday, I called the gas company and they called the fire department back out.
The firemen walked through every level of the house and their tools no longer detected any carbon monoxide so we came home the next day. But, yes, we feel better away from home, which is why we think there’s still something wrong.
The gas technician that came out when we first had the carbon monoxide leak and reported that the home wasn’t safe to live in at that time, suggested that we could also have a problem with radon gas. The air quality in our basement is TERRIBLE, and we’ve known that for a very long time but we’ve just lived with it and minimize our time down there. Now we’re wondering if there’s something REALLY wrong with the air down there and it’s coming up to us through the vents.
I’m looking into the radon situation right now and I left a message with our property manager about it but I need to follow up again.
And this stomach bug is something else. No one has thrown up today (yay!), but several of us still have a very queasy, uneasy feeling after every meal. There’s that and fatigue that’s still lingering. While we were away from home last week, we took the kids to different parks/playgrounds and I’m thinking we could have picked up something at one of those places or perhaps even at the ER…or maybe at the hotel we spent one night at. So many germy places. ๐
I will share a blog post update again of how we’re doing next week. Hopefully, it’ll be much better. Thanks again for your concern, Lisa! You’re so sweet! ๐

I’m so sorry that you are still dealing with this terrible stomach bug! Hopefully it isn’t the CO still lingering in your home. Thank goodness you have alarms installed!
Will continue to pray for your whole family ๐

Thank you so much for continuing to pray, Erin! I appreciate it so much! We’re dealing with upset stomachs and fatigue today, but thankfully, no vomiting.

Sandra, I hope you are all well soon from the stomach bug. How awful that it’s lasting this long. I’ll be praying for your whole family.
In the city we live in there are many homes that have radon gas. Our neighbors across the street had high levels in their basement when they tested. They purchased a digital radon gas detector to check.
Then took care of the problem by digging into the basement and adding a fan to move the gas up and out of the house. Their levels are now normal which is great.
They loaned us the radon detector and we set it up in our basement for a couple of weeks. I’m glad to say we don’t have any radon gas in our home. But it weird one house can have it and the one across the street doesn’t I think it’s good you are going to have it checked on.

Thank you so much for praying for us, Shelly! And thanks for sharing about the radon gas, too. I’m so glad your neighbors were able to fix the problem and bring the levels down to normal. And it’s great that you guys don’t have any in your home. That is wonderful!
We checked the radon detectors on Amazon, and they’re quite expensive. But from my Googling, I found out that Illinois has a law that landlords are supposed to have radon levels checked and if they’re high, they’re supposed to disclose that to tenants. Personally, I would be shocked if our landlord has had our home tested for radon. I don’t think it’s happened, and I went over our lease again and didn’t see anything about it there. I’m waiting to see if they’re going to follow through with a rent concession for the days we couldn’t live in our home last week, and then I’m going to follow up on the radon again.
Thanks again for praying, Shelly! I appreciate it so much! ๐

Sandra, Walmart.com has the first alert home radon test kit for around $15. It seems to be highly rated (others were not) and includes the lab processing too. From what I’ve read in the reviews, (on Amazon and at Walmart) it seems to be a pretty quick turn around a week or so. If your landlord hasn’t tested yet, that might be a good less expensive option so you’ll know.

Thank you so much for letting me know, Shelly! ๐ I appreciate it and we’ll look into getting that kit!
