Well, since my last goals post update, we’re doing much better.
We’re feeling better, and life is pretty much back to normal. We haven’t tested for radon yet, but we’re hoping to get that done soon. It turns out that here in Illinois, it’s not our landlord’s responsibility to test for radon. They are only responsible for disclosing high radon levels to tenants IF they CHOOSE to test.
So, if we want to know whether or not we have high radon levels in our home, we have to test and then let our landlord know if we find out that there are indeed high radon levels in the basement. And then at that point, our landlord would be responsible for (hopefully) making the situation safe by hiring something to fix the potential radon gas problem.
If they choose not to fix the problem, then we’ll just see what we end up doing from there, but they would be responsible for disclosing the high level of radon to any future tenants at that point.
Let’s hope that when we test that there aren’t high levels and we haven’t been exposing ourselves to radon gas for over two years now. I’m hoping that’s the case. But if there are high levels, I feel like that would answer some questions about some health issues we’ve had associated to the air quality in the basement.
Anyway, if you’re still reading, I’ve been researching companies and finding out about different kits that we can buy, and I’ve settled on one. I’m planning on ordering it soon to get the ball rolling. π
As for my goals, I’m starting fresh this week since I missed writing a goals post last week.

I hope there isn’t any radon in your home! I’m glad you’re getting a kit to find out, though. I’m sorry for the troubles you and your family are facing and am sending hugs….
Here’s my list of ten things to accomplish for the week:
1) Slice up 40 lbs of onions and freeze them. DH doesn’t like strong onions and since Vidalias are in season,he wanted to know how to make them last. So we’ll give it a try. Someone told me today that freezing onions makes them stronger….Great….
2)Keep nudging the oldest to get things done for college.
3)Pick up optical items at costco.
4) Take DS2 to Target to get a Father’s Day card. He has a gift card to use…
5) Pick up lottery tickets for DH’s card.
6)Try to put some items on Craigslist. We cleaned up the house really well and now the basement is packed! I don’t want to see any of it anymore. DH said he was going to move everything back but hasn’t done that yet…Good. Some of the sad things are clothes- I don’t need to wear suits and career apparel anymore and DH doesn’t fit into his things. I’ll keep some of it for now. But not forever.
7)Make doctor and dental appts. DS1 needs his wisdom teeth out. I need to see my specialist and DS2 needs minor surgery. I’ll see if DH wants an eye appt as I know his vision has changed. We had planned to get this done before school starts….
8) Bake something- applesauce cake, banana bread….
9)Make smoothies…. I purchased frozen fruits and need to use them.
10) Go to the health screening this weekend and let them check my cholesterol. I never went to one before. It didn’t say if it was free so I’ll find out….

Hi, Lisa!
I hope you were able to get a lot checked off your to-do list. π I’ve never tried using Craigslist in the past, but not too long ago my mom told me about garage sale Facebook groups so I recently joined one in our area because I wanted to sell some things and not go through ebay. So far I’m liking the group because it feels safe and there are very strict rules for selling.
In the last week or so, I sold two things and made $65. Yay!
I’m working on making more smoothies lately, too. I got out of the habit when we were sick, and it’s been hard to start back up. lol I’ve got a lot of frozen fruit to use up in our freezer, too.
I hope you and your family have a great week, Lisa! I loved reading your to-do list!

Oh no, I hope you don’t have radon problems in your house! It seems like you guys have been dealing with so many problems in that house since you moved in. Have you considered moving elsewhere or do you really just like your neighborhood?
Glad to hear that you are all feeling better after a rough couple of weeks!
Sandra says
Thanks, Erin! We’re definitely not renewing our lease once it’s up around the beginning of next year. We will be moving and talk about it and pray about it on a regular basis.
Our dryer is broken right now and the problem probably won’t be fixed for at least another week. π

Omg! How are you? I suddenly stopped receiving your emails. I found out they started going to my junk folder?! π And I have been so busy with lots of random kid-related stuff that I haven’t checked to see what’s going on until yesterday.
You’ve updated your blog! I love it. π
So sorry to read about your family’s exposure to radon. Ugh. I’m glad you’re all feeling better now.
I don’t have a list of goals to share this week. Well, actually, maybe I do. I’m using the Streaks app on my iPhone which allows me to focus on 6 habits. Right now, I’m focusing on:
1. Spiritual Growth (My Utmost for His Highest reading plan via my Bible app)
2. 25 minutes of daily reading.
3. Walk more than 4k steps/day.
4. Write a journal entry.
5. Totally avoid online chess (a nerdy form of escapism when I feel overwhelmed).
6. Complete 6 productive Pomodoros daily.
I know the 4k sounds pathetic but I work at a desk all day and drive kids around the rest of the time. I wish my pedometer got as much action as my odometer!
I’m going to check my email account more carefully to make sure I don’t miss your posts. I hope you have an awesome rest of the week! π

I’m so glad you are all feeling better. Yeah! I hope you don’t have high radon levels in your home. If you live in a newer home it could be that the house just doesn’t breathe well that makes the basement air quality bad.
Your goal of getting one item listed on Ebay reminded me I need to do the same thing. π I hope the rest of this week is a good one for all of you!

Yay for listing one thing on eBay!!
I think that the whole radon thing is a sign that you need to move to Ohio! I really hope you all don’t find anything though. Scary stuff.
