DIY: How to Make Homemade Hair Conditioner

Of all the do-it-yourself recipes I’ve tried, homemade hair conditioner is one of the easiest.

It’s seriously simple and only requires three ingredients: hot distilled water, apple cider vinegar, and jojoba oil.

That’s it! Best of all, it only takes a few minutes to make at home.

Apple Cider Vinegar? On My Hair?

If you have apple cider vinegar in your home or have used it in the past, you know that it has a strong odor; so you may be apprehensive about adding such an ingredient to your hair conditioner.

Let me tell you, while the apple cider vinegar’s scent is noticeable when you apply the hair conditioner, it’s barely discernible as your hair dries.

And it’s undetectable once your hair is completely dry.

Storing Homemade Hair Conditioner

My favorite way to store DIY hair conditioner is in an inexpensive dispenser bottle. The one I currently use was $0.98 at Walmart; and it’s perfect because of the long tip that makes it easy to apply the conditioner effectively. This is important because this particular hair conditioner has a watery consistency and is quite different from the store bought versions.

Do you know what else makes this conditioner different?

It isn’t full of chemicals.

It only has three ingredients, and you can pronounce them all. Plus, it works! 🙂

DIY Homemade Hair Conditioner

Ingredients

1 cup distilled water, hot
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
¼ teaspoon jojoba oil

Instructions

In a measuring cup with a spout (for easy transfer) or even in the container that will hold your conditioner, combine the ingredients and stir or shake, if you're using a dispenser bottle. If necessary, transfer hair conditioner to a different container for storage. Use as desired.

How to Make a Brown Sugar Body Scrub (Video and Recipe)

Today, I’m going to share my favorite recipe for brown sugar body scrub.

It’s actually a recipe that I shared in my ebook a while back, but since my ebook has been around for quite some time now, I thought I’d share it here and include a video to show you just how easy it is to make.

And it is easy. And worth the small amount of effort it takes to whip up — very, very worth it. 🙂

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

Ingredients

1¼ cups brown sugar
¼ cup raw turbinado cane sugar
7 tablespoons coconut oil

Instructions

Mix the ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl. Then transfer the body scrub to a jar or container with a lid for storage.

Benefits of Using Sugar Scrubs

I’ve used both my own DIY sugar scrubs as well as organic scrubs purchased (on clearance) from the store. I like both. But there are some benefits to making your own.

For one thing, it’s cheaper to do-it-yourself. Another plus is that you know exactly what’s in the scrub you create. And finally, the possibilities for the different types of scrubs you can come up with are seemingly endless.

All of these benefits are in addition to the benefits you get after you apply the sugar scrub to your skin. Scrubs are awesome for exfoliating your skin and making it feel clean, soft, and smooth. Tough skin? It’s no match for a sugar scrub!

It’s been busy around our home with two of my sons, along with my mom, celebrating birthdays this month.

But on Sunday evening, I finally got around to filming a video on how to make peppermint sugar body scrub. You might remember this recipe from the post I shared it in here.

In addition to the blog post, I thought I’d create a video to show you just how easy it is to make the peppermint sugar scrub at home. I hope you enjoy it. And please excuse the not-so-great lighting. With it being ‘daylight saving’ day and all, I figured I’d have at least a few extra hours of daylight to film the video. I was wrong. 😉
