Sprint’s Creative New Framily Plan and a Giveaway for an HTC One max Smartphone!

First, I’m incredibly humbled to have been chosen to be a Sprint Ambassador for the next year or so. This means that I’ll get to test various Sprint devices and service options and then share my experience with you here on The Sensible Mom.

But wait — let’s talk about Sprint’s Framily Plan

Before I get into the details of the fantastic giveaway Sprint’s offering one of my readers, I want to talk a little about Sprint’s Framily plan. And, yes, that’s “Framily” not “family,” because the people on your plan don’t have to be family members or even live in the same household.

In fact, your Framily can include you and up to 9 other friends, family members, co-workers, virtual assistants, neighbors, or just about anyone else in your life.

You’ll all get unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data each, while on the Sprint network. Each of the members on the Framily plan receives a separate bill with no annual service contracts or early termination fees (hello!), all for as little as $25 a month per line when you have 7 – 10 members in the Framily group.

At the moment, only my husband and I are on a plan together, and we pay way more than $25 each month (or $50 for the both of us if we were on a Framily plan) on our current phone bill. It would be great if we could put a Framily together and enjoy the benefits of this plan while paying less for reliable Sprint service.

Family Christmas Traditions (and JCPenney gift card winner announcement)

Family Christmas traditions are the best.

I was looking through some of our old pictures from recent years and was surprised to realize just how many traditions we actually maintain. Apparently, we like to do the same things year after year. 😉

Some things we’ve been very intentional about doing each year and other things…just sort of end up happening again and again.

I like that.

Our Family’s Christmas Traditions
One of our favorite things to do is decorate gingerbread houses each and every year. This is a must-do event for us, and I hope my kids continue this tradition when they have their own families.

We don’t look for perfection when it comes to decorating the houses. We’re aiming for family togetherness and a fun time, overall.

Besides decorating gingerbread houses, we also love to…

Make Christmas cookies
Drive down a local street that’s famous for its Christmas story displays and lights (my parents drove us down this same street when I was a kid)
Marvel at the houses that go over the top with holiday lights and inflatable characters (the inflatables seem to get bigger and better every year!)
Drive through the Phillip’s Park Festival of Lights display
Set up a nativity arrangement
Pick out a new tree ornament that represents our family
Drink hot chocolate
Decorate the Christmas tree and hang Christmas decorations inside and outside of our home
Go Christmas shopping (JCPenney is a great place to shop this time of year)
See Santa Claus

I could cry because this year we won’t be doing most of what I mentioned above. This year we’ll be spending Christmas at the Children’s hospital. David, my four year son who recently went through a bone marrow transplant, is in isolation in his room, and there’s no way we’re all going to be able to be together on Christmas.

That’s okay, though. Knowing this is our reality for ‘Christmas 2013’ gives me a greater appreciation for all the years we’ve been able to be together as a family for Christmas and create such wonderful family traditions.

How to Make Playtime More Fun with Citrus Lane (and a Giveaway!)

For kids, playtime is essential.

I feel like, in my own family, there are times when I have to be very intentional about encouraging my kids to play with toys and games that stimulate their minds. I have to be careful not to allow them to simply gravitate towards screens or other mindless video games when they should be playing offline and not in front of a screen.

Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions (and a $50 JCPenney Gift Card Giveaway!)

Thanksgiving is almost here.

And I can’t help but think about what Thanksgiving was like last year and the year before that and when I was a kid. Memories flood my mind, and they’re good memories filled with recollections of happy times that I shared with my family when I was a kid and that I share with my own kids now.

What was Thanksgiving Like When You Were Growing Up?
I thought that today we could reminisce and talk about some of our favorite holiday family traditions growing up – the good ones and even the embarrassing ones, if you have any. 😉

I’ll go first.

As many of you know, I’m Mexican, and I remember my mom and dad always keeping Thanksgiving very traditional. We ate turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Christmas, on the other hand, that’s when my parents would make loads of tamales, and we’d visit my cousins’ house for their yearly Christmas party. That was so much fun!

Going back to Thanksgiving growing up, I remember that after eating until we could no longer breathe without pain, we’d stay home (no shopping!) and play games, watch TV, or simply talk to each other.

Those were the days…

What Thanksgiving Traditions Do You Keep Now?
Now that I have my own family, I’ve tried to be more intentional each year about keeping Thanksgiving simple yet meaningful.

Here are 3 of our current Thanksgiving Traditions:

We intentionally talk about what and whom we’re thankful for, and we have the kids write their thoughts down ahead of time.

We make a craft or two.

We choose one or two new recipes to try for Thanksgiving dinner.

I’m looking forward to keeping these traditions and building upon them for many, many years to come.

To give you an idea of what a Real Latino Holiday is like, watch this video. It definitely reminds me of what Christmas was like growing up! 🙂
