Make It Happen Monday

It’s Monday. Whew! I’ve had quite the weekend. I got exactly zero homework done, but that’s okay. My first class doesn’t start until 11:15 this morning so I can get my project sketch done by then, right? And good enough to be deemed “good” by my photoshop teacher’s expert eyes (he’s got two master’s degrees in Art and even the drawings he quickly throws up on the whiteboard are impressive). I have my first project due for this class next Monday, but first I have to sketch out what I’m going to do and it has to be a good sketch…..by a person who is lucky to draw a good stick figure.

Then there’s the HTML homework that never got done or the final touches to my Dreamweaver web site (at least this one is almost completed). Both of those things are due tomorrow, so, I’ll be pretty busy tonight. But everything was put off for good reason. My sister welcomed my neice into the world, and I spent the hours that I would normally have had for homework up at the hospital. 🙂

Now I need a list to keep me on track. Lists complete me. Enter Make It Happen Monday.

Here’s my list for the week:

Monday: finish homework for Photoshop, HTML, and Dreamweaver

Tuesday: work on hand-coded web site due for HTML class worth a ridiculous amount of points

Wednesday: go over the list I made for what I’d like to prepare for Thanksgiving and make a list of what I need to buy

Thursday: call insurance companies to see if we can get a lower rate on our car insurance which recently increased

Friday: smile because it’s the weekend and I only have one day of school next week

Super Savings Saturday: JC Penney

This Super Savings Saturday isn’t about my latest trip to Walgreens (which incidentally has come down to about once every two weeks–just before my Register Rewards expire…..that reminds me…..I may need to make a trip there today.), it’s about my need to use a $10/$10 JC Penney coupon before it expired. And it happily resulted in a new purse for me.

A purse that was originally $60. I found it on the clearance rack for $11.97. Now we’re talkin’. After my $10 JC Penney coupon, I only paid $2.11 out of pocket! That’s about 96% savings!

I’m so glad to have found this great deal because my last purse was in terrible shape. It was so bad I was too ashamed to even show it to you in a picture.

Just kidding. In the haste of my transferring all of my things from one purse to the other, I threw the old purse in the trash before my daughter had the chance to start begging me to let her keep it.

P.S. I just edited this post because I realized that I didn’t go to Kohl’s at all for the purse, it was JC Penney. 🙂

We’ve got feedburner.

Check out my right sidebar! I finally got feedburner going so now you can simply enter your email address to sign up for free updates to The Sensible Mom. I had feedburner on my other blog, A Lot of Savings, but Ruben had set it up at the time so I was a little clueless as to how to get it going and visible for this blog. Ruben didn’t exactly remember how it go it going almost two years ago for the old blog, so, there was a bit of learning that had to be done on my part. Good learning, though. This is something I’ll need to know in order to be able to get it set up for others when we start our business.

And did you notice that I changed the color of the wording inside the subscription box? I love knowing HTML and CSS! But I’m a little afraid because I just started learning HTML/XHTML over the last few months and it seems soon enough designers are going to start using the newest version of HTML which is called HTML5. There’s also a new version of CSS in the works called CSS3. I guess I’ll have to check out a few books to learn all the cool new tags and functions available to us and to find out what is being pitched (depracated) in place of the newer code.

Since revamping our schedule, I’m happy to report that I’ve had success in going to bed earlier and waking up somewhere between 4:30-5:00am. This has allowed me time to shower, get myself ready, read my Bible, and exercise!

Getting into an exercise routine has been a challenge for me for a long time. I’ve tried scheduling it for the evenings, but when the time comes….there’s always something else that needs to be done or I just plain forget. By scheduling in it in the morning before all the kids are up, there is no forgetting and no excuses. It’s just me, and the “The Biggest Loser: Power Sculpt” DVD. Ruben does join me some mornings, and we are going to try to do it together every morning once we get another set of weights. Your workout just goes a little farther when you are using two weights instead of one each.

I’ll probably check out prices at Wal-Mart later this week.

Now to get my diet in check. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had started eating a bigger, yet healthier breakfast (still a lot of calories for breakfast, though) in an effort to lose weight. It’s not working.

Instead, I’m going to go back to eating less calories, more protein, more vegetables, and one cup of coffee per day. I’m only allowing myself one cup of coffee until I finish up all of my instant coffee (don’t want it to go to waste…..). I’ve got a small jar left and some in packets. After that, it’s “see ya” to coffee except for maybe a once a week homemade frappe on the weekend.

I’ll let you know how this works for me!
